Mansplaining the devil is no easy feat.
April 1st 2024
Mansplaining the devil is no easy feat. is the first orchestral work I have ever written. It is probably the most vulnerable and political piece I have written yet, and this is not necessarily obvious without context. I did this on purpose because I didn’t want any listeners or performers to take away the wrong message from the piece, thus the nature of the piece is very cryptic. Mansplaining the devil is no easy feat. takes its inspiration from the #metoo movement, and it follows the journey of an individual processing trauma. Each movement has its own meaning. The first one (The Unknowing) represents blissful unawareness, the second one (The Unravelling) represents realisation, the third one (The Undoing) represents shame, the fourth one (The Unscrewing) represents anger and the fifth one ([blank]) represents a cathartic yet uneasy conclusion.
